Sultan – Global Underground Nubreed 8
Aug 25, 2009 Blogging Bee, What to listen to
[Rating:5/5]
The intro sets you in a calm environment to prepare you for what’s to come. The buildup is seemless and entirely progressive, a style Sultan has mastered lately from what I heard from his live sets. The CD fits perfectly an after hours night drive or just a small escape to the land of nowhere. It has this wild touch that makes you somehow closer to nature. But don’t worry the reprises after the vocals are more than banging. I loved relistening to “Moments” a classic for me.
The percussions towards the end of the CD lift you up and make you want to dance and sway. *Percussions have a weird effect on me*
Track list for this CD is pure joy !
Definitly a CD I’d play on my morning rides while watching the sun coming up !
CD2 is completely another mood more uplifting and joyful.
The most dominant feeling of this CD is happiness. You can recognize well known Vocal tracks alongside fresh Tech House selections giving a Housy, afternoon party dimension to the set. Also, oriental keys proved again how Sultan can swing between Eastern influences and Progressive.
I am very pleased with this compilation, GU made a very neat choice by choosing Sultan for this Nubreed.

The Sasha & Digweed Experience
Aug 19, 2009 Blogging Bee
On the 15/08/09 we engraved 2 legends in our history, 2 huge artists that definitely became my all-times favorite duo. At some point, in the beginning I tried focusing on all that was happening, an hour later, I realized that, I was way lifted-off and beyond what I could imagine.
The setup reminded me of a racing car arena. Very simple and industrial, exactly what we needed to focus on the music and not being disturbed by a themed setup. The screens were very cool in the middle. VJing was good, I wondered how Kaa would have turned that evening upside down though, but still I loved the colors and animations (Safety plane instructions etc).
MaDJam’s warmup was better than Zab’s part 2 eve, definitely more focused and steady. It wasn’t my kind of tracks though but it was a healthy way to prepare the terrain.
Sasha started the journey, banging fine tech house settling a good second warmup to what’s to come. His tracks were very varied and happy, I love the improvised parts, how unexpected each track sounded and how smooth everything went on. I don’t remember how I lost control on the set and got lifted-off. John took over the second hour, more traditional and straight forward DJing. It was at a point repetitive but then, Sasha came in for a boost, smiled, lifted his hands up and took over again.

At some point, the set was going Tech, and it suddenly blew us off with these huge bass beats. That was the point of no return for the rest of the evening. It was a mix of Tech/Progressive/Electronic Tech/Tech Tribal tracks making us move like no other. If you felt pain in your legs at that point, just listening to the beats and the bass lines lifted you off the ground. I couldn’t stop dancing and it was a blast being in front of the DJ booth at the front row.

Their Back2Back collaboration was so synced. It showed how easy communication was between them and how experienced legends are. Communication with the crowd, sounded good to me. I didn’t pay much attention to what was happening behind me, if the crowd was dead or not but since they started the “Heavy” part of their set, a lot followed and were in sync with the surrounding.
I expected to hear the Ladytron track, Sasha remembered the feeling it gave at his last gig and I was glad to re-live that ! Depeche Mode’s finale was “There are no words to describe that” with the sun coming up. I felt this journey went on extremely quickly. I couldn’t get enough.
